As Addis Ababa begins hosting the 2025 IDAfrica Conference under the theme “Unlocking Identity for Development”, the city has proudly presented its achievements and ongoing efforts in Civil Registration and Identity Management.
Mr. Yonas Alemayehu, Director General of the Addis Ababa City Administration Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency (CRRSA), shared the city’s experience and strategic direction in building a robust and inclusive identity system rooted in comprehensive civil registration.
In his remarks, Mr. Yonas emphasized that the Addis Ababa Smart City Initiative has positioned civil registration as a key pillar for addressing governance challenges and advancing digital service delivery for residents. He further highlighted that the national digital ID initiative “Fayda”, led by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, is becoming a foundational component of the city’s digital transformation journey.
Mr. Yonas also noted that the ongoing Fayda enrollment, being carried out by CRRSA in collaboration with the National ID Program, has seen a significant and rapid increase in registration rates—demonstrating strong public engagement and institutional momentum.
On this international conference more than 105 countries and 2300+ participants are participating.
