Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The father must come before the Honorary Registrar and give his word that he is my son.
  2. When a court-approved will is submitted and one of the father's parents accepts the child on behalf of the biological father, and the child's mother acknowledges the recipient's paternity, it is registered.
  3. If the child has reached the age of majority, the father's acceptance of the child is recorded as the child's acceptance of paternity.
  4. Although the biological father is a minor, only the father can promise that he is the child.
  5. If he gives his word through an agent, a special power of attorney approved by the court must be submitted.
  6. The registrar should not register unless the child's mother believes that the recipient's paternity is genuine.
  7. The registrar shall post a notice for a period of 30 consecutive days from the date on which the father submits a request to register the acknowledgment of childhood and record the fact that the dispute has not been raised.
  8. When the child's father is dead or unable to give his consent, one of the father's parents can give his word to the registrar saying that he is my child in his name.
  9. If the child's mother is dead or found to be incapacitated, the affidavit may be given by one of the child's mother's parents.
  10. In the absence of the child's mother's parents, the affidavit may be given by another parent who is considered superior or by the guardian of the person who is prohibited by the court.
  11. When a person who acknowledges childhood is presented before the Honorary Registrar, the registration will be done if no objection is made that it is my child within 30 days from the date of presentation.
  12. A person can register that he is the father by appearing in front of the honor register officer and stating that he is the father through his statement or written will or through any other document certified by any authorized authority.

Reminder

  •  The residence ID will not be given by proxy and will not be renewed
  •  Ethiopians diasporas and foreign nationals living abroad are not issued residence ID
  •  Resident ID will not be issued at any business house.
  •  Any resident who has been given a residence ID will be issued a new ID after the expiration of the period of service.
