Where services are provided
Civil Registration and Residency Services Agency branch office of woreda
Any registered resident must meet the following requirements to obtain Addis Ababa City Resident ID:
- Must be registered in Residence Registration Form 001
- Age must be 18 years and above;
- Must appear in person or apply through the technology option provided by the agency
About Isuing Resident ID
- Resident ID is proof of residence issued only to Ethiopian city resident registrants by card or other technology options;
- An Ethiopian who is 18 years of age and older and registered as a resident in the district where he lives has the right to ask for an identity card;
- According to sub-section (2) of this article, a person who submits a request can get the service by appearing in person at the district office, holding 2 photographs taken in the last 6 months and filling out the service request form;
- ID is not delegated; It will not be renewed.
- A resident who is issued with an ID shall have the rights and benefits of the ID.
- An Ethiopian who has been registered as a resident and has not changed his nationality while living in a foreign country, will be given an identity card when he meets the requirements of Article 12 of this directive;
- A resident who resigns from his previous residence has the right to request an ID when he registers as a resident after the resignation has been registered for 3 months in the residency registration form of the district where ID is required. The office must also provide proof that the registrant is waiting for the residency period to be registered as a resident with the office's legal seal and give it to the registrant;
- In accordance with Article 7 (d) of the Directive, registrants will receive ID service registered as residents without waiting three months for their release.
Regarding the issue of Resident ID of undocumented owners
When it is declared from the district land holding and verification office that the ownership rights of undocumented owners are created and they are confirmed to live in the district, they can get the ID service when they perform residency registration. However, if you are found to be the owner of illegal possession from the relevant party, the ID service will not be provided from the date of notification by the relevant party. No renovations will be made.
Regarding the issue of identification in a business house
- ID will not be issued by any business;
- In spite of what is stated in clause (1) of this article, they will get identification based on the evidence they provide from the housing development office or the tax payers office that the commercial house and the residential house are together
- If evidence is provided from the Housing Development Office that the entire house has been transferred to a commercial house, they will not receive ID service
About renewal and replacement of Resident ID
- Any resident ID issued under this policy is valid for up to four years. At the end of the service period, he will be refunded and given a new ID.
- When a resident whose ID is torn, burned, damaged or otherwise useless, immediately applies in writing to the issuing district office, he will be given a replacement ID after confirming that he was registered as a resident and that he had already taken the ID;
- A resident whose ID has been lost will come to the district office and refer to the information of his previous ID. When the manager confirms that he is a resident, he will be given a new ID instead of the proof provided by the Polus station.
- Any resident who has been given an ID by this guide must renew the ID by appearing in person at the office when the ID service expires;
- Subject to the provisions of Article (d) of this Law, if the renewal period has expired, it can be renewed by appearing in person at the office for up to 2 months without penalty. When a resident who presents a sufficient reason for not being able to renew is found to be related to health or social problems and the manager of the office approves the reason, the penalty will be lifted;
- Subject to what is stated in paragraph (e) of this law, a resident who has not renewed his ID card after four years and two months will be renewed by paying a fine if he is present in person at the office and confirmed on oath that he is living in the district.
- Subject to the provisions of paragraph (f) of this law, if the period of service of the ID is more than 2 years, he is required to provide proof of his stay in Ethiopia. If he has been outside Ethiopia, he will be renewed by presenting a renewed passport that proves that he has not changed his citizenship;
- The number to be used for identification in place of clauses (b) and (c) of this law shall be the previous registration and identification number;
- Previously, the ID issued in a form without a house number and verified by the chief executive of the district administration will not be renewed. However, when they present a registrant who is registered as a resident with a regular residential address, they can renew their ID by having their release information organized in an affidavit and giving them a release;
- Residents registered under Article 22, Paragraphs (3) and (4) must provide written evidence of their permanent presence in the facility when they come to renew their ID;
- If the commercial house and the residential house are together and who has taken an ID, the ID will be renewed based on the evidence they provide from the housing development office or the tax payer's office.
Reminder
- The residence ID will not be given by proxy and will not be renewed
- Ethiopians diasporas and foreign nationals living abroad are not issued residence ID
- Resident ID will not be issued at any business house.
- Any resident who has been given a residence ID will be issued a new ID after the expiration of the period of service.
